Let's learn basic Kanji #31 level 3

Hello guys!
How's your Kanji goin'?
I know it bothers you.
But if you know at least basic Kanji you can enjoy more Japanese culture. :)
Just try to write each Kanji 2 or 3 times. It's enough.
Better than nothing. (/・ω・)/
 By the way, Meaning is a mere example. When Kanji is used with other Kanji together that meaning is also changed.
For example, 花 means flower, 火 means fire. However 花火 means fireworks.

守　音: ・シュ・ス　　　　　　　　　訓:・まもり・まもる・もり
                Meaning: 'protect''defend''guard'

Example sentence:自分の身は自分で守る。/Jibunn no mi wa jibunn de mamoru.
                                 (To protect oneself by oneself.)
*守る(まもる)[v] to protect, to defend
  看守(かんしゅ)[n] prison officer
  守備(しゅび)[n] defence
  秘密を守る(ひみつをまもる)[v] to keep a secret
  約束を守る(やくそくをまもる)[v] to keep a promise



取　音: ・シュ　　　　　　　　　訓:・と(る)
                Meaning: 'take''get'

Example sentence:私は資格を取るために勉強しています。/Watashi wa shikaku wo toru tame ni benkyou siteimasu.
                                 (I'm studying to get a license.)
*取る(とる)[v] to take
  資格(しかく)[n] license
  取材(しゅざい)[n] interview
  取っ手(とって)[n] handle, grip, knob
  取得する(しゅとくする)[v] to obtain


酒　音: ・シュ　　　　　　　　　訓:・さけ
                Meaning: 'alcohol'

Example sentence:私はしばしばお酒を飲みます。/Watashi wa shibashiba osake wo nomimasu.
                                 (I often drink alcohol.)
*お酒(おさけ)[n] alcohol
  しばしば[adv] often
  飲酒(いんしゅ)[n] drinking alcohol
  日本酒(にほんしゅ)[n] sake, Japanese rice wine
 



受　音: ・ジュ　　　　　　　　　訓:・う(ける)
                Meaning: 'receive''passive'

Example sentence:今朝、小包をアマゾンから受け取りました。/Kesa kodutumi wo amazon kara uketori masita.
                                 (I received the parcel from Amazon this morning.)
*受け取る(うけとる)[v] to receive
  小包(こづつみ)[n] parcel
  被害を受ける(ひがいをうける)[v] to get damaged
  試験を受ける(しけんをうける)[v] to take an exam
  受信機(じゅしんき)[n] receiver



州　音: ・シュウ・ス　　　　　　　　　訓:・しま・す
                Meaning: 'state'

Example sentence:九州には7つの県があります。/Kyushu ni wa nanatu no ken ga arimasu.
                                 (There're 7 prefectures in Kyushu.)
*州(しゅう)[n] state
  九州(きゅうしゅう)[n] the one of the island in Japan





拾　音: ・シュウ・ジュウ　　　　　　　　　訓:・ひろ(う)
                Meaning: 'pick up'

Example sentence:ゴミを拾って、ゴミ箱に捨てる。/Gomi wo hirotte, gomi bako ni suteru.
                                 (To pick rubbish up and throw it away in the rubbish bin.)
*拾う(ひろう)[v] to pick up
  ゴミ(ごみ)[n] rubbish, trash, garbage
  ゴミ箱(ごみばこ)[n] rubbish bin, trash can
  捨てる(すてる)[v] to throw away




終　音: ・シュウ　　　　　　　　　訓:・お(える)・おわ(る)・つい(に)
                Meaning: 'end''finish'

Example sentence:もう宿題は終えました。/Mou shukudai wa oemashita.
                                 (I've already finished my homework.)
*終える(おえる)[v] to finish
  終わる(おわる)[v] to end up
  宿題(しゅくだい)[n] homework
  終点(しゅうてん)[n] terminus, rail terminal, last stop
  終電(しゅうでん)[n] last train



習　音: ・シュウ　　　　　　　　　訓:・なら(う)
                Meaning: 'learn'

Example sentence:じゅうどうを習っています。/Judo wo naratte imasu.
                                 (I'm learning Judo.)
*習う(ならう)[v] to learn
  柔道(じゅうどう)[n] Judo, Japanese martial arts
  習慣(しゅうかん)[n] habit
  予習する(よしゅうする)[v] to prepare (lessons)
  復習する(ふくしゅうする)[v] to revise (for exams)



集　音: ・シュウ　　　　　　　　　訓:・あつ(まる)・あつ(める)・つど(う)
                Meaning: 'collect''gather'

Example sentence:コインを集める。/Koin wo atumeru.
                                 (To collect coins.)
*集める(あつめる)[v] to collect
  集団(しゅうだん)[n] group
  集中する(しゅうちゅうする)[v] to concentrate
  問題集(もんだいしゅう)[n] workbook, question collection
  写真集(しゃしんしゅう)[n] photo book, photo collection


住　音: ・ジュウ　　　　　　　　　訓:・す(む)
                Meaning: 'live'

Example sentence:どこに住んでいますか？/Doko ni sunnde imasuka?
                                 (Where are you living?)
*住む(すむ)[v] to live
  住宅(じゅうたく)[n] residence, housing
  住民(じゅうみん)[n] sitizen, inhabitant
