In this lesson, we'll learn how to conjugate verbs to a neagative form in present tense.
After this lesson, you'll be able to say 'わたしは働きません。' like this. :)
If you need to know how to structure positive verb sentence plz check Here!
In negative form, you need to think whether they're u-verb or ru-verb.
For sure, 「食べる」is ru-verb. TABERU is ended in ru sound.
「歩く」is u-verb. ARUKU is ended in u sound.
Are we on the same page?
Those above are a mere example. So plz make sure that you're understanding ru-verb and u-verb. :)
Ok, so let's start today's lesson. :)
The system is simple but there're some irregular verbs.
Basically, verb connects to 「ません」in negative sentence.
For example,
わたしは、食べません。(I don't eat)
わたしは、見ません。(I don't look/see)
ru-verb connects to 「ません」without 「る」like above.
However, there're also some irregular verb as same as positive form.
As for example, 「走る」HASHIRU is ended in IRU sound which is supposed to be ru-verb.
However, 「走る」connects to 「ません」replacing 'u' with 'i'.
Hashir '
「帰る」KAERU is also an irregular verb.
Kaer '
There're only few irregular verbs which you should know.
I listed them below.
・入る(はいる)[v] to enter, come in
・走る(はしる)[v] to run
・要る(いる)[v] to need
・帰る(かえる)[v] to go back
・切る(きる)[v] to cut
・知る(しる)[v] to know
What about u-verb is quite simple.
Just drop 'u' sound from end of infinitive and add 'i' + 「ません」.
「泳ぐ」OYOGU
Oyog '
「話す」HANASU
Hanas 'u' + 'i' + ません = Hanasiません. → 話しません
Tthey're conjugated as same as irregular ru-verb.
Let's do some exercises. :)

2.She doesn't speak English. かのじょは、英語を( )ません。
3.He doesn't come back until dusk. かれは、夕方まで( )ません。
4.(I) don't know. ( )ません。
